Focus and Scope

ULUMUDDIN is the Journal of Islamic Legal Studies that has covered the contemporary issues of Islamic legal thought, primarily new and popular notions and practices of Islamic law. It does not covering only issues of fiqh (legal cases), but also philosophies of Islamic law or legal theories, development of maqasid, elaborations between ideas of Islamic law and modern social sciences, and specific issues of practical implementations of Islamic law and their complexities in Indonesia and other Muslim regions. Accordingly, the journal has invited scholars with specialisation in Islamic legal studies but also in various disciplines of social sciences and humanities.

Peer Review Process

Research papers, articles, article reviews and book reviews published in ULUMUDDIN undergo double-blind review.

Although all papers reviewed by two experts (editors and/or members of the International Editorial Boars), the decision of publication will be undertaken by the editor in-chief based on reviewers’ considerations.  

Members of the International Editorial Boards also have contributed to give recommendation, advice and guidance to the editor in-chief which are greatly important in order to make decision.

Managing editors have provided the administrative support especially to ensure the managerial process of the papers from-and-to authors, editors and reviewers. They also have confirmed that all papers should be free from any issues of academic integrity (eg. plagiarism).


Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Due to this journal is open access, it means that all content is freely available without charge to users or institutions.




This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
