Poin utama dari keseluruhan topik dalam buku ini adalah; praktik ‘rent seeking’ yang berdampak terhadap kesenjangan pendapatan, dan selanjutnya mengakibatkan kegagalan pasar dan krisis ekonomi. Istilah‘rent seeking’ merupakan istilah yang digunakan oleh Joseph E. Stiglitz dalam buku ini, yang ditujukan kepada beberapa oknum pengusaha pada ekonomi Amerika Serikat yang senantiasa mendapatkan keuntungan tanpa usaha, dan tak acuh terhadap lingkungan sekitar. Penulis menyebutnya sebagai ‘pencari (uang) yang tamak’. Namun jika dilihat dari esensinya, perilaku seperti ini di Indonesia sangat mirip dengan ‘rentenir’.Downloads
