Maka, kecenderungan untuk menerapkan mekanisme pertahanan ego guna meredakan kecemasan tersebut pun muncul. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan sampel 2 pengamen jalanan di traffict light. Penggalian data digunakan wawancara semi terstruktur dan observasi partisipatif pasif. Sebagai uji keabsahan data dilakukan triangulasi sumber, yaitu kepada teman terdekat subjek. Mekanisme pertahanan ego yang ditampilkan oleh kedua subjek antara lain: represi, avoidance, pengalihan, dan sublimasi. Mekanisme pertahanan ego represi sebagai awal dan pembentuk mekanisme pertahanan ego lainnya, sehingga tampak sering muncul pada kedua subjek. Dampak negatif mendominasi, sehingga hal tersebut mengarah pada perilaku neurosis. Hal ini tampak pada salah satu subjek yang minum minuman beralkohol, bersikap agresi, dan menarik diri dari lingkungan (withdrawl). Pada subjek lainnya, subjek juga menarik diri dari lingkungan (withdrawl) dan bersikap agresi. Sedangkan dampak positifnya, yaitu kedua subjek lebih memilih menjalani pekerjaan sebagai pengamen daripada menjadi pencopet, serta tetap fokus mengamen tanpa harus berkelahi dengan pihak-pihak yang mengancamnya ketika di jalanan.

Live the life as street children can not be separated from various kinds of problems, so it is often causing they had anxiety. Then, the tendency to apply a ego defense mechanism in order to relieve anxiety of the ego that has emerged.This study aimed to know what ego defense mechanisms which appeared on street children. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with sample used is 2 street busker on the traffic light. For data mining used semi structured interviews and participatory observation passively. As a test of the validity of the data to check the correctness of data triangulation source, that is done to the nearest friend of the subject. Ego defense mechanism shown by both subject: repression, avoidance, diversion, and sublimation. Repression as the start and common ego defense mechanism other, so repression looked often appear on both subject. The negative impact is dominated, so it leads to neurosis behavior. It looks while one of subject drinks an alcohol beverages, be aggression, and draw away from the environment (withdrawl). The other subject also draw away from the environment (withdrawl) and be aggression. Meanwhile, positive impact over all that is both subject preferring undergo a job as a busker rather than becoming pickpocket as well as keep the focus busking without having to fight with those who threaten them when on the streets.
