ABSTRACT

Every day society were treated to television shows totaling hundreds of television channels in the country and abroad. The program became the flagship events and Infotainment favored women. Many viewers were not enough critical when watching television. For that is the media literacy skills need to for the community. The focus in this study is looking at the ability of media literacy through the existing indicators in Personal Competences Framework. The results of this research show that the level of understanding media literacy of women classified as Basic. This can be seen from the low level of technical ability, cognition, power and critical attitude. Many mothers are not able to analyze and evaluate the contents of television media messages in a comprehensive manner. Knowledge and ability concerning the regulation of the broadcast media are also very poor. The level of ability of women in digesting the information also still low. Helplessness in mothers criticizing bad tv footage is also low. This happens because the level of awareness and knowledge of the ways of conducting resistance on television is still minimal.

ABSTRAK

Setiap hari masyarakat disuguhi acara televisi yang jumlahnya ratusan dari beragam channel televisi dalam dan luar negeri. Program Infotainment menjadi acara unggulan dan digemari ibu-ibu. Banyak pemirsa yang tidak cukup kritis ketika menonton televisi. Untuk itu perlu kemampuan media literacy (melek media) bagi masyarakat. Fokus dalam penelitian ini adalah melihat kemampuan media literacy melalui indikator-indikator yang ada dalam Personal Competences Framework. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pemahaman melek media ibu-ibu tergolong Basic. Hal ini terlihat dari rendahnya kemampuan teknis, daya kognisi, dan sikap kritis. Banyak ibu-ibu yang tidak mampu menganalisis dan mengevaluasi isi pesan media televisi secara komprehensif. Pengetahuan dan kemampuan tentang regulasi media penyiaran juga sangat minim. Tingkat kemampuan ibu-ibu dalam mencerna informasi juga masih rendah. Ketidakberdayaan ibu-ibu dalam mengritik tayangan televisi yang buruk juga rendah. Hal ini terjadi karena tingkat kesadaran dan pengetahuan tentang cara-cara melakukan perlawanan pada televisi masih minim.
