Regular efforts are needed to ensure these stories, and their embedded values are passed down through generations. Many ways can be conducted, including socialization and implementation of character education values. This article aims to socialize and implement the character education values contained in folklore. This community service program is an attempt to preserve and pass down the character education values contained in the legend "Malin Kundang," a well-known legend about a son's disobedience to his mother and cursed to be a stone, to many segments of people, especially youngsters in West Sumatra and its surroundings. Unversitas Andalas lecturers and students in Sumatra Barat, Sumatra Selatan, Bengkulu, and Riau conducted the program. We collected data regarding people's knowledge of "Malin Kundang," its educational values, and the methods of sustaining the values for the next generation. The results show that 65 out of 79 (82%) respondents understand the legend "Malin Kundang." Sixty-seven (85%) respondents agree that religious, moral, and social values such as courtesy, respect for others, obedience to parents, hard work, abstinence, and remembrance of origin are values to be passed on to others. While 'Malin Kundang' is widely known, continuous efforts are needed to instill its values in the younger generation. Utilizing modern techniques such as IT and media can enhance the preservation and dissemination of these cultural values.
F. Ferdinal, O. Oktavianus Copyright (c) 2024 F. Ferdinal, O. Hand sanitizer serves as a practical solution in situations where access to water and soap is limited, especially in school environments. This article outlines a training program designed for junior high school students participating in the Adiwiyata program, aimed at enhancing their understanding of hand hygiene and empowering them to independently produce hand sanitizer using readily available ingredients. The training program incorporates various steps, including a pre-test to gauge students' initial knowledge, educational sessions highlighting the importance of cleanliness and proper hand hygiene practices, hands-on practice sessions for students to craft hand sanitizer, and post-training evaluation to assess knowledge retention and practical skills. Results indicate a significant improvement in students' knowledge and practical abilities in hand sanitizer production, as well as a heightened awareness of the importance of hand hygiene in disease prevention. By equipping students with the skills to create their own hand sanitizer, the training not only promotes individual health but also aligns with the objectives of the Adiwiyata program by reducing reliance on commercial products containing potentially harmful chemicals and fostering a cleaner, healthier school environment.
Aldi Budi Riyanta, Wilda Amananti, Istiqomah Dwi Andari Copyright (c) 2024 Aldi Budi Riyanta, Wilda Amananti, Istiqomah Dwi Andari https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/jcse/article/view/33380 Thu, 05 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Implementing blended learning and gamification to develop learners’ speaking skills in an English-speaking club https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/jcse/article/view/32559
This paper aims to elaborate a community service program, which addressed a significant issue in the semi-formal English learning contexts for the secondary level of education. The study’s limitations include its focus on a specific sample from Batam City, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to other regions or markets. Future research should aim to broaden the sample size, include participants from various geographic locations, and examine additional variables that might influence consumer behavior. These insights suggest that MSMEs should prioritize optimizing pricing strategies, enhancing customer satisfaction through superior service, and tailoring marketing efforts to local market conditions. Addressing these factors will help businesses better meet customer expectations, build loyalty, and achieve sustained success in niche markets such as online orchids.
Tussi Sulistyowati, Nur Elfi Husda Copyright (c) 2024 Tussi Sulistyowati, Nur Elfi Husda https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/jcse/article/view/34799 Thu, 05 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Design and socialization of elderly-friendly hydraulic toilets for Elderly Shelter PCA Dau, Malang https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/jcse/article/view/37126
The spirit of improving the welfare of the elderly is the concern of Amal Usaha Aisyiyah, an autonomous organization under Muhammadiyah by establishing a Shelter for the Elderly in the Dau area, under the management of the Aisyiyah Dau Branch Leadership. With such a substantial population, the need for clean water and sanitation is also considerable. However, the potential sources of raw water for clean water reserves are very limited, especially surface water. The groundwater level at the study site is also quite deep, particularly in the southern parts of Landungsari Village. Rambakan and Bendungan hamlets have groundwater levels ranging from 15 to 25 meters deep. In contrast, Klandungan hamlet averages over 25 meters, and in the vicinity of Thursina Boarding School, it is more than 40 meters deep, making shallow wells impractical. Meanwhile, the clean water supplied by the PDAM is very limited. To address the issue of clean water availability, an investigation through groundwater estimation is necessary to ensure that the selected locations for deep well exploration are not in vain. The results of groundwater estimation must be representative and provide strong scientific justification for the accuracy of the findings. The method used in this investigation is the geoelectric resistivity method using ADMT-300H, which operates based on Darcy's law. It emits electromagnetic waves and measures soil resistivity to identify aquifer layers and determine the depth and thickness of the aquifer. The results obtained with ADMT-300H include: optimal discharge at well 1 (WL-1) of 3.07 l/s and well 2 (WL-2) of 3.14 l/s. Optimal discharge represents the sustainable limit for utilizing groundwater flow.
Moh Abduh, Khoirul Abadi, Dandy Achmad Yani Copyright (c) 2024 Moh Abduh, Khoirul Abadi, Dandy Achmad Yani https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/jcse/article/view/32720 Tue, 19 Nov 2024 00:00:00 +0700 The implementation of e-government for village good governance in South Misool, Raja Ampat https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/jcse/article/view/35483
This community service aims to implement E-Government as a solution to improve village governance in South Misool, Raja Ampat.
