https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/33780

The preamble of oral tradition embodies a collection of beliefs and rituals practiced by indigenous people. There has been a harmonious relationship between humans and nature since ancient times. This includes the preambles of Buleng from Betawi and Kentrung from Java, which trace the religious evolution from Hindu-Buddha ancestry to Islam in Java. This study aims to compare the differences in the religiosity and culture of indigenous people in the preambles of Buleng and Kentrung. The researcher combines Koetjaraningrat's theory of cultural elements and Thompson's folklore motifs with a motif, type, and theme approach in Jost's literary comparison. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, including transcription, identification, meaning, and comparison of data findings. The researcher applied analytical techniques of data reduction, categorization, and presenting descriptive interpretations along with the results of an outline scheme and inferring data through certain expressions of identity. The results demonstrate that: [1] both preambles express Islamic religiosity through regional language; [2] the religious system is described in all linguistic terms, acknowledging the magic of mantras in the Buleng preamble and the realization of Islamic worship in the Kentrung preamble; and [3] the social system regarding “Pancakaki” or family structure, “Sampurasun” greeting in the Betawi indigenous community, krama alus as well as the “unggah-ungguh” culture in the Javanese indigenous community are highlighted. The two preambles emphasize the dominance of Islamic religiosity, which coexists alongside respect for ancestors through wise and virtuous attitudes.
Nur Aini PuspitasariVismaia S. https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/29972

The new phenomenon in linguistic studies makes pragmatics a prestigious study. One of the topics is presupposition. This research discusses the main problem of the construction of repetition speech flavour and the purpose of its use. This research needs to be done as an effort to review the pragmatic point of view that is present in language speech. The purpose of the research is focused on the explanatory analysis of the form of speech taste repetition on presupposition. Furthermore, the researcher conducted an explanation of the relationship between the use of repetition language style and the conception of speech control. The researcher used qualitative approach with content analysis method. The data collection technique is done by listening and note taking. The result shows that Denny Sumargo's speech taste in structural presupposition refers to repetitive language style. The phenomenon can be seen in the utterances that appear. Of the 47 presuppositions spoken, 33 of them are repetitive structural presuppositions. The use of the language style has a strong conceptual relationship with the social attributes of the interlocutor who suffers from paralysis. The purpose is to strengthen, emphasise, and change the mindset of the interlocutor to be able to have strength again in living a life that is inversely proportional to the previous situation.
Yuanita WidiastutiAnang SantosoSumadi

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/36077

The study of oral traditions in Indonesia has a long history, dating back to the Dutch colonial period. The field developed following the country's independence. Subsequently, it received support from the Balai Pustaka and the Regional Government Language Center in the post-New Order period. Nevertheless, the current state of knowledge remains undocumented. This study employs bibliometric methods to map the knowledge landscape of oral tradition research in Indonesia over a 44-years (1980-2024), focusing on performance analysis and science mapping. This research analyzed 139 documents from 102 sources written by 312 authors from 10 countries from the Scopus database. The results indicate an increase in publication trends over the past nine years. The Malay World is the most prolific journal in terms of oral tradition research output in Indonesia. Research themes related to disasters and the environment have emerged as a significant area of interest. Fourth G is the most productive author in this field. The science mapping analysis indicates that oral tradition research in Eastern Indonesia is emerging as a new field of study. Topics on wisdom and the environment are unique to oral tradition research in Indonesia, and emerging themes are related to using oral tradition in education. Future research areas include ecological wisdom, regional architecture, and traditional ecological knowledge. These findings provide an overview of the development and direction of oral tradition research in Indonesia and insight into the current position of oral tradition research in the country. They are also helpful for researchers and decision-makers seeking a deeper understanding of the current state of oral tradition research in Indonesia.
Eggy Fajar AndalasSudibyo PrawiroatmodjoSri Ratna SaktimulyaArsanti Wulandari

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/30376

This study focuses on the problem of low writing skills in junior high school students' explanatory texts caused by low reading interest, limited vocabulary, and ineffective Learning models. Therefore, a study is needed to compare the effectiveness of Visualization, Auditory, Kinesthetic (VAK.), and Guide Inquiry Learning (GIL.) Learning models in improving students' writing skills on the topic of actual problems. A quasi-experimental design was used with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design involving Santu Petrus Catholic Junior High School students in the academic year 2023/2024 in Pontianak as the population. The sample of this study included 105 students who were selected using the cluster random sampling method. The data obtained were from students' explanation text writing test results, which were then analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and Scheffe tests. The results showed that the VAK model significantly and more effectively influenced students' explanation text-writing skills than the GIL and DL (conventional) models. Applying the VAK model can be an effective strategy for improving students' writing skills. In addition, the findings guide educators and curriculum developers to design learning that is more responsive and appropriate to students' learning styles. The VAK model allows students to utilize their learning preferences, such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, thus creating a more creative and enjoyable learning environment.
Valents Roni Sunarno Alnovgada

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/33276

The ability to persuade is a valuable communication skill that cannot be acquired easily. When used with confidence, persuasive speech possesses power, triggers change, and can inspire action. Speaking persuasively is a strategy that a motivator must master; this skill aims to influence, suggest, bring about positive change, and create attraction when speaking to an audience. This study aims to analyze the strategies used by motivators to influence participants in motivational seminars. The research employs a qualitative method with a pragmatic approach, as this approach provides strong tools for uncovering the hidden meanings in the motivator's speech. The data sources are derived from twenty (20) videos of Indonesian motivators Ary Ginanjar Agustian and Ippho Sentosa, focusing on aspects such as the topic and context of their talks. The overall findings reveal that the success of a motivator in influencing seminar participants is closely tied to three persuasive strategies used. These strategies are: i) commitment and consistency, ii) social proof, and iii) authority. The implications of this study support Robert B. Cialdini's persuasive theory, showing that the three motivators successfully persuaded, changed attitudes, and reinforced the intentions of seminar participants. Practically, the study suggests that organizations or individuals aiming to organize motivational events should select motivators with strong rhetorical skills.
RuaidahSumadiWahyudiNurchasanah

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/35432

Sundanese language in the Kuningan region. The development of sociolinguistic games is essential because it can increase understanding and awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity among players, especially among children and adolescents, including college students. This game serves as an engaging educational tool for learning sociolinguistic aspects, such as dialect variations and language interactions in a fun and interactive context. In addition, sociolinguistic games support the preservation of local languages and cultures in a modern and accessible way. In this game design research, researchers refer to the MDA (Mechanics, Dynamics, Aesthetics) framework to understand and design the gaming experience. Mechanics refers to the rules and systems of the game, Dynamics describes the player’s interaction with the system, and Aesthetics includes the emotional experience of the player. This framework helps designers create rich and satisfying experiences by considering the interaction of these elements. The game is evaluated using the LORI (Learning Object Review Instrument) instrument to assess its pedagogical qualities, involving assessments from experts and users. The findings point to the need for RPG game designs that support language and ethnolinguistic elements, focusing on code switching and code mixing in the context of Sundanese society. The results of the evaluation show that this game not only contributes to the understanding of sociolinguistic concepts but also fosters a positive attitude towards Indonesian and Sundanese culture.
Asep Jejen JaelaniAde HikmatImam Safi’i

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/35002

The background of writing this paper is based on a sense of concern about the extinction of the Mandailing regional language, especially the metaphor type. The purpose of this research is to reveal the pattern of mapping metaphors of the Mandailing regional language and concrete efforts in the preservation and revitalization of the Mandailing regional language to avoid extinction. The data source used is the use of the Mandailing regional language, a metaphor type used in social communication in the community. The data of this study is in the form of lingual units of spoken language in the social life of metaphor-type communities. The research method uses qualitative descriptive with data collection through the interactive engagement method. Meanwhile, the data processing method is based on the analysis of CMT conceptual metaphor theory through the mapping of various domains referred to in the use of metaphor-type Mandailing regional language. The data analysis method uses the referential method, to show and compare references or meanings contained in the realm of metaphorical speech mapping. This study found that there are five domains used in the metaphorical type of Mandaling regional language, namely: the human realm 5 (25 %) data, the object realm 4 (25 %) data, the plant realm 3 (18.75 %) data, the earth realm 2 (12.5 %) data, and the living realm 3 (18.75 %) data. These five realms of metaphors are used as referential data in metaphorical speech for society through the association of relevant meanings in social life. Meanwhile, the data on the language attitudes of the Mandailing people is still considered inadequate, and the level of community concern in preserving the Mandailing language is not good. Based on data on the level of public concern from cultural practitioners 8%, educators/teachers 20%, and the general public 26%. There are several concrete efforts in revitalizing the Mandailing regional language, including: the need for special regional regulations to strengthen and preserve, changing school curriculum policies by including the content of the Mandailing regional language, increasing community involvement in the preservation of regional languages, making the Mandailing regional language an active language of daily communication in the community.
M SuripSyairal Fahmy DalimuntheSumarsonoSyaiful RohimHendra Kurnia Pulungan

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/36808

Indonesia has high linguistic and cultural diversity, where multilingualism is common, especially in the Chinese community. In Medan, the use of mixed language between Chinese (Hokkien), Indonesian, and English, known as Chindolish, is often encountered daily, including in the school environment. At Hang Kesturi School Medan, English teachers usually use Chindolish as a communication strategy to help students understand the subject matter more quickly. This study aims to find out the types of Chindolish code mix used by teachers and the reasons behind its use in the context of language teaching. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach, and data were collected through observation and interviews with five teachers from September to December 2023. The results showed 120 code-mixed utterances, with 30 of them being Chindolish classified based on Hoffman and Musyken's theory. The findings revealed that intra-lexical and intra-sentential code-mixing were the most frequently used types. In addition, the interviews identified that the teachers' main motivations in using code-mixing were to facilitate students' understanding, overcome language barriers, and create closeness between teachers and students. This study provides insights into multilingual practices in educational contexts in multicultural environments and their implications for language teaching.
Karunia Devi FridaSyahron Lubis

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/33934

Job Creation Law Number 6 of 2023 was designed to revise and replace Job Creation Law Number 4 of 2022, which had previously replaced Job Creation Law Number 11 of 2020. Despite the primary objective of this law to address deficiencies in the previous laws, significant potential linguistic issues still exist, namely lexical and grammatical ambiguities. This is evident in several articles whose meanings remain ambiguous, dual, and contradictory with other articles or laws, opening opportunities for diverse interpretations and creating legal uncertainty. This study aims to delineate the forms of lexical and grammatical ambiguity in the Job Creation Law Number 6 of 2023. The research method applied is qualitative research method, focusing on analyzing micro discourse structure, encompassing lexical and grammatical meanings. The research findings reveal that several words and phrases are prone to misinterpretation. Lexical ambiguity is found in the words 'dapat' (can/may), 'memperhatikan' (considering), and phrases such as 'tidak mampu' (unable), 'istirahat panjang' (long rest), 'Paling Banyak' (most), and 'Paling Lama' (longest). In contrast, grammatical ambiguity is observed in phrases like 'Serta harus' (and must) and 'Diberitahu' (informed). These ambiguities are present in Article 17 Paragraph 1, Article 81 Paragraph 33, Article 81 Paragraph 25, Article 42 Paragraph 3, Article 17 Paragraph 32, and the explanatory section of Article 8 Part 33. Based on the research findings, it is crucial to propose a review or re-evaluation of articles that have the potential for controversy due to lexical or grammatical ambiguity.
Prahoro Yudo PurwonoFrans Asisi Datang

https://ejournal.umm.ac.id/index.php/kembara/article/view/33697

The Anthology of Poetry in the Book of Rain in June by Sapardi Djoko Damono is a literary work that has various dimensions of interpretation of meaning and can be interpreted in various scientific disciplines. One of them is the science of monotheism. This research aims to analyze monotheism and explain its practice with the characteristics of unification and recognition in the science of monotheism contained in word symbols, phrases or sentences in the book written by Sapardi Djoko Damono entitled June Rain. Researchers use Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutical approach theory to answer the question of human monotheism in Allah SWT. Research was studied using descriptive qualitative methods and data collection techniques in the form of literature reviews. The research results show that there are two characteristics of the science of monotheism, namely unification and recognition of Almighty Allah. These two characteristics were analyzed in three steps, namely symbols, interpretation and interpretation, which then resulted in 13 poetry titles being analyzed, resulting in 17 symbolic findings in the characteristics of unification and 19 symbols in the characteristics of the recognition of the science of monotheism. After the process of lexical interpretation and interpretation, it was found that the practice of the characteristics of unification in the science of monotheism found in the June Rain Book was found, namely practicing the contents contained in Surah Al-Fatihah. Apart from that, the second characteristic, namely the confession in the analysis of the poem, has the essence of the practice of achieving the knowledge of monotheism, namely carrying out servitude by performing prayers.
Reki Kusuma WardanaYosi Wulandari
