Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) untuk meningkatkan komunikasi pada anak autisme

Autism is a person condition who have disruption of interaction, communication, and behavior. In this study, a five years old subject experienced problems in communication of which whimper of willing something instead of expressing it. This condition is reported by the teacher and parents that happens in school and home. The subject cannot say what he wanted to others. The subject try to attract someone hand to show the stuff or something he want but others do not understand it. The aim of this research is to improve communication skills in autistic children. The hypothesis in the research does PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) have an effect on communication in children with autism. The method used in this research was study case. The assessment methods were observation, interviews, and childhood autism rating scale. The intervention given to help subject communicate what he wanted by the help of picture card. The result of this intervention showed that the subject can communicate his willingness by the picture given.
Autisme merupakan suatu kondisi seseorang yang mengalami gangguan dalam berinteraksi, berkomunikasi, dan berperilaku. Pada penelitian ini, subjek berusia lima tahun mengalami masalah dalam berkomunikasi yaitu merengek-rengek menginginkan sesuatu alih-alih mengungkapkannya. Kondisi ini dilaporkan oleh guru dan orang tua yang terjadi di sekolah dan di rumah. Subjek tidak dapat mengatakan apa yang diinginkannya kepada orang lain. Subjek mencoba menarik perhatian orang lain untuk menunjukkan barang atau sesuatu yang diinginkannya tetapi orang lain tidak memahaminya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keampuan komunikasi pada anak autis. Hipotesis dalam penelitian ini adalah apakah PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) berpengaruh terhadap komunikasi pada anak autis. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kasus. Metode penilaian yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan childhood autism rating scale. Intervensi yang diberikan adalah untuk membantu subjek mengomunikasikan keinginannya dengan bantuan kartu bergambar. Hasil intervensi ini menunjukkan bahwa subjek dapat mengomunikasikan keinginannya melalui gambar yang diberikan.
