Academic pressure, family issues, and social environment can trigger negative thoughts, potentially leading to suicidal ideation in early adulthood. Butterfly hug, a bilateral stimulation technique, is believed to help reduce stress and negative emotions. however, research on its effectiveness in reducing suicidal ideation remains limited. This study aims to examine the efficacy of butterfly hug in reducing suicidal ideation among individuals in early adulthood using a pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 12 participants were divided into an experimental group (n=6), which received the butterfly hug intervention over seven sessions including introduction, psychoeducation, simulation, demonstration, evaluation, homework, and close. The control group (n=6) did not receive any treatment. Data analysis using the Mann-Whitney test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed that butterfly hug was significantly effective in reducing suicidal ideation (p< 0.05). These findings support the use of butterfly hug as an additional intervention for suicide prevention in early adulthood. The implications of this study contribute to the development of psychological science, particularly in psychological interventions based on bilateral stimulation.
