Abstract

Losing a father permanently can leave adolescents feeling sad, lost, confused, and worried. This is especially true if the subject must replace the father’s role in the family while still completing their studies. Thoughts about the future, academic pressure, the search for self-identity, and emotional changes often lead to stress. Reality therapy is thought to be able to help reduce stress experienced by adolescents who have lost their parents. This study aims to determine the role of reality therapy in reducing stress levels in adolescents whose parents died while they were still in high school. The subject of this study was a 16-year-old boy. Data collection methods used included interviews, observations, the stress scale (DASS), and psychological testing. The results of the intervention showed that reality therapy was able to significantly reduce stress levels. Subjects experienced increased awareness of their current condition, had more positive thoughts, and were motivated or even highly motivated to carry out their daily activities and engage in more meaningful activities. In addition, the results of this intervention were evidenced by changes in DASS scores, from the high category to the low category.

Kehilangan ayah secara permanen dapat membuat remaja merasa sedih, kehilangan, bingung, dan khawatir. Hal ini terutama berlaku jika subjek harus menggantikan peran ayah dalam keluarga sambil tetap menyelesaikan studi. Pikiran tentang masa depan, tekanan akademis, pencarian identitas diri, dan perubahan emosional sering kali memicu stres. Terapi realitas dianggap dapat membantu mengurangi stres yang dialami remaja yang kehilangan orang tua. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran terapi realitas dalam mengurangi tingkat stres pada remaja yang orang tuanya meninggal saat mereka masih di sekolah menengah atas. Subjek penelitian ini adalah seorang remaja laki-laki berusia 16 tahun. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan meliputi wawancara, observasi, skala stres (DASS), dan tes psikologis. Hasil intervensi menunjukkan bahwa terapi realitas mampu mengurangi tingkat stres secara signifikan. Subjek mengalami peningkatan kesadaran akan kondisi mereka saat ini, memiliki pikiran yang lebih positif, dan termotivasi atau bahkan sangat termotivasi untuk menjalani aktivitas sehari-hari dan terlibat dalam aktivitas yang lebih bermakna. Selain itu, hasil intervensi ini dibuktikan dengan perubahan skor DASS, dari kategori tinggi menjadi kategori rendah.
