EFEK EKSTRAK DAUN SIRIH MERAH (PIPER CROCATUM RUIZ & PAV) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN (STREPTOCOCCUS PNEUMONIAE)

Efek Ekstrak Daun Sirih Merah (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) Terhadap Pertumbuhan (Streptococcus pneumoniae). Latar belakang: Perkembangan resistensi Streptococcus pneumonia terhadap obat antimikroba merupakan masalah potensial sehingga untuk pengobatannya diperlukan alternatif lain. Daun sirih merah diduga mempunyai manfaat sebagai antimikroba karena mengandung flavonoid, minyak atsiri, tanin, dan alkaloid yang bekerja dengan cara merusak membran sel dan dinding sel bakteri. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak daun sirih merah (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus pneumoniae. Metode penelitian: True experimental post test only control. Metode: penelitian ini menggunakan dilusi tabung dengan konsentrasi ekstrak daun sirih merah 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125%, 1,56%, 0,78%, dan 0,39% serta 2 kontrol (kontrol bahan dan kontrol kuman). Hasil: Kadar hambat minimal (KHM) 6,25%. Kadar bunuh minimal (KBM) 12,5%. Uji one way ANOVA menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang bermakna antar perlakuan (p=0.000). Hasil analisis regresi menunjukkan pemberian konsentrasi ekstrak daun sirih merah berpengaruh terhadap penurunan jumlah koloni bakteri sebesar R2= 47,1%. Hasil analisis korelasi sebesar -0,686 (p = 0.000) semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak daun sirih merah semakin berkurang jumlah koloni bakteri Streptococcus pneumoniae. Kesimpulan: Ekstrak daun sirih merah memiliki efek antimikroba terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus pneumoniae.
