Abstract

The research inspected difference of opinions between majority of the moslem scholars
and the contemporary of moslem reformers about law of using jilbab in Islam.
One of the moslem scholar that chooses a certain opinion that using jilbab not be
obligatory for the muslimah, is Quraish Shihab. With content analysis method,
this research analyzes several of Quraish Shihab’s opuses (books) and opinions in
Tafsir al-Misbah that is based on reference for this research. Based on discovery of
this study, researcher concludes that opinions of Quraish Shihab is influenced by
feminism movement that had demanded freedom for women, than finally it influenced
also to the opinions of the contemporary moslem scholars in Egypt and Tunisia, so
they did not make compulsory in using jilbab.
