Abstract
Practice of Islamic education in the country is still far from the expected. There is
a very wide gap between idealita with practice in the field. One of the problems and
gaps that need attention is the issue of gender realation. In Islamic educational
institutions, primarily the traditional patterned, there is still a view of gender
relations that have not represented the spirit that carried al-Qur'an and as-Sunnah,
namely gender equality. Therefore, gender mainstreaming is important because it is
based on the following assumptions: first, there is still gender bias in the practice of
Islamic education, for example in terms of assumptions, the treatment until the
action. Second, gender bias is due to biased interpretation or at least less appropriate
to the doctrine of Islam, especially with regard to gender relations. Third, lack of
proper interpretation is growing more dominant in the Islamic educational
environment, primarily the pesantren and madrasas that Islamic education practice
is more influenced by the interpretation that this gender bias.
