Abstract

The existence of a nation is determined by the character they have. Only a nation
that has a strong character that is able to make itself as the nation's dignity and
respected by other nations. The desire to be the real character of a nation that has
long been embedded in the nation of Indonesia. During the reform the nation's
desire to build character continued to flare. The desire to be a democratic nation,
free from corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN), respect and obey the law of
nations is a desirable character in the life of society, nation and state. However, the
fact that there are precisely shows the opposite phenomenon. Based on this fact, this
paper would like to discuss the nation's character education. In this paper will be
discussed some of the following: problems in education, sources of local knowledge,
foster environmental potential to develop local wisdom, and how to actualize the
local wisdom as a basis for developing the nation's character education in Indonesia.
