RUNTUHNYA PENJARA SEBAGAI INSTITUSI TOTAL

Abstract

Imprisonment as a form of total institution is in fact not really total and fully capable of disciplining the individuals in it. Practices negotiation between the wardens with the prisoners, the wardens among convicts in prison, showed free of individuals in several respects. Inside the prison, for example, wardens and inmates negotiate to interpret according to their own social order, conduct a formal rejection of the rules and control techniques as well as replacing the official rules although secretly. In Indonesian context, the case of discovery of a luxury facility for convicted bribe (Artalyta Syriac), convicted of narcotic (A ling) in Pondok Bambu prison by Team Eradication Task Force on Leal Mafia. This team is a form of negotiation in a total institution. Negotiation practices in prison can ultimately undermine the mainstream view that prison can not be longer to be referred as total institution.
