ABSTRACT
Premature are babies who are born with a gestational age less than 37 weeks. The problem that occurs in premature infants associated with immature function of organ systems. one of them is inadequate coordination between suction and swallowing reflexes, resulting in premature infants at risk of aspiration and lack of nutrition that will have an impact on weight this study selected works of Mozart classical music therapy as a treatment in preterm infants to determine its effect on reflex suction and weight . The general objective was to identify the effect of classical music on reflex suction and weight gain in preterm infants. Type of research is a quasi-experiment with a non-randomized pretest-pretest control design . sampling technique using purposive sampling sample of 30 premature infants were divided into control and treatment groups. While the techniques used to test the hypothesis of non-parametik data analysis with Mann Whitney U test with a number of á=0.05. The conclusion of this research was the classical music therapeutic effect on weight gain of premature infants with p=0.01, but no effect on premature babies suck reflex with p=0.71. The results can be used as input for further research in order to enhance the implementation of the implementation of music therapy procedures or prefers other types of music as an attempt to stimulate reflex suction and weight so accusto premature baby’s development to be more optimal.
