Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

JOURNAL DESCRIPTION

JURNAL ILMU EKONOMI (JIE) is a peer-reviewed journal published four times a year (February, May, August and November) by Program Studi Ekonomi Pembangunan, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. JIE is focused on the research (Empirical Study) or conceptual articles in economic science which consists of:

  • Development Planning
  • Economic Development
  • Economy Industry
  • Regional Economy
  • Regional Planning
  • Finance and Banking
  • Employment
  • Islamic Economics

The primary criterion for publication in the journal is the significance of the contribution an article makes to the literature in the economic development, i.e., the significance of the contribution and the rigor of the analysis and the presentation of the paper. Every submitted paper is independently reviewed by at least two peer-reviewers. The decision for publication, amendment, or rejection is based upon their reports/recommendation and made by Editor. If two or more reviewers consider a manuscript unsuitable for publication in this journal, a statement explaining the basis for the decision will be sent to the authors within two weeks until four weeks

AUDIENCE

The primary, but not exclusive, audience is academicians, postgraduate students, econom practitioners, and other people interested in economic development research.

AUTHOR FEE

Jurnal Ilmu Ekonomi will not charge anything to the author for a submission fee or publication fee. Once the issue is published, the author will get an issue by email and/or the postal system.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS and EDITORIAL DECISION

All submitted manuscripts are read by the editorial staff. Those manuscripts evaluated by the editors to be inappropriate to the journal’s criteria are rejected promptly without any external review. Manuscripts evaluated to be of potential interest to our readership are sent to double-blind reviewers. The editors then make a decision based on the reviewer’s recommendation, from among several possibilities: Rejected, requires major revision, needs minor revision, or accepted.

The editor-in-chief of the Jurnal Ilmu Ekonomi (JIE) has the right to decide which manuscripts submitted to the journal should be published.

Review Process:

1. Author submits the manuscript

All manuscripts must be submitted to JIE Editorial Office using Online Submission at E-Journal portal (see JIE Submission JIE) where author register as Author by online. If authors have any problems on the online submission, please contact Editorial Office at the following email: jie@umm.ac.id.

The Author should submit the manuscript in word format to the JIE Editorial Office by online submission to (see Submission JIE). All manuscripts must be prepared according to the Jurnal Ilmu Ekonomi (JIE).

Upon the submission of the manuscripts, the author(s) will receive confirmation of the submission along with some submission declaration forms that need to be filled in and signed, before the editors can process the manuscript.

2. Editor’s evaluation 

Some manuscripts are rejected or returned before the review process.

3. Double-blind peer review process

Every submitted paper is independently reviewed by at least two peer-reviewers. The decision for publication, amendment, or rejection is based upon their reports/recommendation and made by Editor. If two or more reviewers consider a manuscript unsuitable for publication in this journal, a statement explaining the basis for the decision will be sent to the authors.

4. Confirmation to the authors

Manuscripts sent back to the authors for revision should be returned to the editor without delay. Revised manuscripts can be sent to editorial office through the Online Submission Interface. The revised manuscripts returned later than 1 month will be considered as new submissions.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION GUIDELINES

JIE manuscript preparation and style guidelines follow. Each manuscript must include a reference list containing only the quoted work and using the Mendeley tool. Each entry should contain all the data needed for unambiguous identification and use the following format recommended by APA STYLE.

The manuscript texts are written in English (see JIE Template). Manuscripts in English will be first reviewed by editorial boards. The main text of a manuscript must be submitted as a Word document (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file.

The manuscript well-typed in single column on A4 size paper (210mm x 297mm), use 12 pt of Calisto MT and must be 1 line-spaced. The manuscript contains an original work and have potentially contribute to the highly scientific advancement.

The manuscript should contain the following section in order:

Title Page

1. Article Title

The title should describe the main content of article, be informative, concise, be accurate, unambiguous, specific, not too wordy  (12-15 words only), does not contain formulas, and infrequently-used abbreviations. The title describes the conducted research, Cambria, Font size 14, single line spacing, 0 pt after spacing.

2. Author’s name and Affiliations

The full name of each author, the affiliation of each author at the time the research was completed and the address for each author including the full postal address, telephone, and email addresses. Where more than one author has contributed to the article, please provide detailed information for the corresponding author(s) with numbering on afifiliations.

3. Abstract

Abstract, which comprised of approximately 150-200 words and should be presented in English, Cambria, Font size 10. Abstract provides a brief description of research problems, aims, method used, results, and conclusion. An abstract should stand alone, means that no citation in the abstract. Consider it the advertisement of your article. The abstract should tell the prospective reader what you did and highlight the key findings. Avoid using technical jargon and uncommon abbreviations. You must be accurate, brief, clear and specific. Use words which reflect the precise meaning. The abstract should be precise and honest.

4. Key words

Key words, Written in English  3-5 words or groups of words, written alphabetically and marked with a separator (;) and should be presented in English, Cambria, Font size 10. Keywords are the labels of your article and critical to correct indexing and searching. Therefore the keywords should represent the content and highlight of your article. Use only those abbreviations that are firmly established in the field.

5. JEL Classification Numbers

Authors should add a 1 - 3 JEL Classification Number. An information guide for the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) can be found at https://www.aeaweb.org/jel/guide/jel.php.

Main Article

Manuscripts submitted to this journal should have the followimg main headings:

1. Introduction

Articles written with a maximum of 20 pages and should be written a maximum of 25 percent of the number of pages and must be written in single line spacing, Cambria 12. The introduction comprises of: (1) research problem; (2) insight and problem solve planning; (3) summary of theoretical studies and the results of the present study (state of the art), related to the observed problems (gap analysis), and (4) research aims.

2. Methods

This section explains how the research was carried out. The method should be written a maximum of 15 percent of the total number of pages of the article. The main materials must be written here: (1) research design; (2) population and sample (research objectives); (3) data collection techniques (4) and data analysis techniques.

If there is a mathematical equation it must be numbered in ordinary brackets and must be referred to in writing. Mathematical equations are numbered with numbers inside the open-close parenthesis in the right-aligned position. The equation is written jutting into the right hand side. Writing equations should use the equation menu, it is not recommended that the equation be in the form of a scan or screenshoot.

3. Results and Discussion

The author needs to report the results in sufficient detail so that the reader can see which statistical analysis was conducted and why, and later to justify their conclusions.

Reporting results: The author may assume that the reader has a working knowledge of basic statistics

The discussion of article aims to: (1) answer the problems and research questions; (2) show the ways the findings obtained; (3) interpret the findings; (4) relate the finding results to the settled-knowledge structure; (5) bring up new theories or modify the exist theories.

The following components should be covered in discussion: How do your results relate to the original question or objectives outlined in the Introduction section (what/how)? Do you provide interpretation scientifically for each of your results or findings presented (why)? Are your results consistent with what other investigators have reported (what else)? Or are there any differences?

Research results must be clearly concluded in answering the research questions. Interpretting the findings should be done by using logics and present theories. The findings in form of facts found in the research fields are integrated to previous researches or present theories. This must be supported by reliable references. In case the researchers bring a new theories, the old theories can be confirmed or rejected, or modify the old theories.

Results and discussions should be written a maximum of 50 percent of the total number of pages of the article. The contents of the discussion are not allowed to use bullet and numbering but are arranged in the form of paragraphs.

4. Conclusion

The conclusions are not a summary of the results of the study and emphasize important findings. Align with the statement of research objectives, there is no need for a number or bullet system. Make generalizations carefully, but also note the limitations of the findings.

5.  References

Literature / reference sources are libraries published in the last 10 years and consist of at least 15 sources of reference, of which 80% are primary sources (research in journals). Also, the authors should avoid excessively referencing their work (self-citation). Citation and referencing must be written based on APA style 7th Edition which is organized by using Mendeley software latest version (See Mendeley).

References are referenced from international reputable databases (we prefer). These databases include Sciencedirect (https://www.sciencedirect.com/), Springer link (https://link.springer.com/), Taylor and Francis (https://tandfonline.com/), Sage Publishing ( https://journals.sagepub.com/) etc.

Citation Guidelines

A basic format to list the reference documents as follows:

  1. The reference list is arranged in alphabetical order by the authors’ last names
  2. If there is more than one work by the same author, order them by publication date, oldest to newest
  3. If there is no author, the title moves to that position and the entry is alphabetized by the first significant word, excluding words such as “A” or “The.” If the title is long, it may be shortened when citing in the text.
  4. The first line of the reference list entry is left-hand justified, while all subsequent lines are consistently indented.
  5. Use “&” instead of “and” when listing multiple authors of a source.
  6. Capitalize only the first word of the title and the subtitle, if there is one, plus any proper names – i. e. only those words that would normally be capitalized.
  7. Italicize the title of the book, the title of the journal/serial and the title of the web document.
  8. For any non-English articles, please write down the translation of the article in brackets [ ] after the original article’s title. Note that the original article should be written in italics.
