Entman’s Framing of Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s Candidacy: A Media Analysis of The Straits Times

The general election in 2024 will be one of the most memorable political events in the history of Indonesian democracy. The controversy regarding Gibran Rakabuming Raka's candidacy attracted public attention, both domestically and at the international level. This research focuses on how The Straits Times frames Gibran's candidacy in its reporting using Entman's framing analysis approach. This research aim to identify the framing patterns used by the media and understand how the narratives constructed can influence public perceptions of politics in Indonesia. The research results show that The Straits Times adopted a neutral and descriptive approach in reporting Gibran's candidacy. The main focus of reporting is more directed at political strategy and election dynamics rather than moral aspects or allegations of abuse of power. This media depicts Gibran's candidacy as part of the political process standard in democratic systems but still provides space for criticism regarding dynastic political practices. In addition, The Straits Times emphasized the significance of transparency in the electoral process and the necessity for citizen engagement in overseeing democratic operations to ensure trustworthiness.
