Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word (doc or docx), RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

The submission stage

ULUMUDDIN, published twice a year in English (British), peer-reviewed journal, and specialises in issues of Islamic legal thought, Islamic legal theory, and practices of Islamic law particularly in Indonesia and other Muslim world in general. This journal welcomes contributions from scholars of disciplines of Islamic legal studies, social sciences and humanities.

The research paper, article and book review should be submitted by Author via email and online submission of ULUMUDDIN (a contributor can register as Author).  

The paper must not be published and/or submitted to another journal or any other publication.

When two or more reviewers have considered that a manuscript unsuitable for publication in this journal, a statement explaining the basis of the decision will be sent to the authors within three months of the submission date.

The word limits

The paper should be written in English between approximately 6000-7000 words (Title, abstract, keywords and main body of the paper) with the exclusion of footnotes and bibliography.

Title

All submission must have a simple and concise title with only the first word capitalised. The title must consist of 100 a maximum of 100 characters (including spaces) for running headers should also be provided.

Abstract

An abstract should accompany each manuscript. It should be completely self-consistent (i.e., with no figure, table, equation or reference citations), not exceeding 200 words and written as a single paragraph.

Keywords

Each article should have 5-7 keywords. Each word should be separated by a semicolon. 

Author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s)

A list of authors should be followed by affiliations, states and emails. 

Main body of the paper

The body of the paper must consist of sections. Sections should be bold. Subsections should be italic. Use hyphens consistently and avoid unnecessary ones. The words “section(s)”, “equation(s)”, “figure(s)” and “reference(s)” are abbreviated as “sect(s).”, “fig(s).”, “eq(s).” and “ref(s)” unless they are the first word of a sentence. The word “table” is always written in full.

Latin expressions, such as, e.g., i.e., et al., versus (vs.) should be set in italic.

Arabic Transliteration

All terms in Arabic should be transliterated using the Library of Congress guide that can be  [archimedes.fas.harvard.edu/mdh/lcromanization.pdf].

Footnotes and Bibliography

The standard of citation and bibliography of the paper should consistently follow the Chicago Style that can be accessed through https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html
 
The proof correction stage
 
Once proofs are ready, an e-mail will inform the authors and attache it in pdf format.
 
Authors are asked to carefully check the proofs. They should keep in mind that the aim of proofreading is to correct errors that may have occurred during the production. Therefore they should particularly check completeness of text, equation breaks, figures, tables and references.
 
Only essential corrections are accepted.
 
The author has the final responsibility for the corrections.
 
Corrections should be returned within 48 hours and can be sent back either as a detailed list by e-mail (quoting the amendments location with page, columns and line number). Please do not alter the PDF proof file, add annotations or send back an amended manuscript file.
 
As soon as the proofs are returned, the paper will be corrected and posted for the on-line publication.
 
ULUMUDDIN is an open access journal. Authors should not pay some processing fees (Free Charges) for articles processing and DOI maintenance once their articles has been accepted. Readers can read and download
 
Offprint: Authors will receive the PDF file (with no cover) of their article for free as soon as it is posted for the on-line publication.
