Abstract

This article aims at explaining the Islamic ethics of sexual relation between husband and his wife using the perspective of Islamic legal thought based on al-Qur’an and alSunnah. Playing roles of the approach of the Islamic legal hermeneutics (tafsīr alaḥkām) on the scriptural texts, quantitatively, this article intends to support studies of the Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) that have focused especially on the topic. Although some scholars have concerned about the topic and they have tended to emphasise the essentials of the legal perspective of ḥalāl and ḥarām, this article in more obvious way deals with the legal ethics. Consequently, it seems to lead a legal narrative that is more undermining the discourse of taboo. The article arguably states that the vast and limited ethical rules in Islam are actually considered and covered by the scripture. Accordingly, it urges to the matter of reflection that Islam has ruled the whole aspects of life, as well as the intimate relation between husband and wife. The article specifically explains the etics of sexual relation (pre, during and post sexual intercourse) in Islam.
