E-sports in Indonesia has been one of the growing phenomena among young people in Indonesia since the emergence of e-sports tournaments at the 2018 Asian Games. This was met with the rise of various e-sports tournaments and agendas that have emerged since then. However, before becoming professionals, some athletes came up from the amateur level, especially in the game Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). By using a qualitative method that prioritizes data collection with observation and interviews, this research aims to find the identity construction of amateur athletes heading to professionals. The finding is that the professional athlete's career journey is supported by the existence of console rentals in the area where they live, in addition, there are several mystifications of playing styles that also support their career from time to time. Moreover, the e-sports community and the publication of various e-sports tournaments also play an active role in the development of the athletes' professionalism. Technological, marketing and cultural elements are interrelated in the phenomenon of identity formation of e-sports athletes in Indonesia.
