Development of a virtual field trip based on the ADDIE model to increase environmental awareness and writing creativity in elementary school students

Environmental damage in Indonesia caused by deforestation, pollution, and loss of biodiversity has an increasingly alarming global impact. On the other hand, the low level of creativity in writing among elementary school students is a challenge in education, mainly due to the lack of innovative learning methods. This study aims to develop a video-based virtual field trip learning media to increase students' environmental awareness and writing creativity. The development model used is ADDIE, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Student needs analysis was conducted through observation and interviews with teachers, then the learning media was developed and validated by media and material experts. The trial was conducted on 11 fifth-grade students at MIM Digdaya Bolon. The validation results showed that the learning media was suitable for use, with a percentage of 77.3% from media experts, 73.3% from material experts, 90.6% from teachers, and 86% from students. The effectiveness test showed a significant increase, with an average score increase of 2.57 points and an N-Gain value of 0.71 (sufficiently effective category). These findings indicate that video-based virtual field trips can be an effective alternative solution in learning, especially for instilling environmental awareness and improving the writing skills of elementary school students.
