History of Journal

The Global-Local Interactions Journal (GLI) was established in 2019 by the Department of International Relations at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The journal was created to address the need for a dedicated platform that explores the multifaceted impacts of globalization and the dynamic interactions between global and local actors. GLI aims to contribute to the theoretical and practical understanding of these interactions, providing valuable insights for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in the field of International Relations and beyond.

Early Beginnings and Hiatus

Shortly after its establishment, the world was struck by the Covid-19 pandemic, which profoundly impacted many academic and research activities globally. In response to the pandemic and undergoing internal transformations, the editorial team decided to put the journal on a two-year hiatus from 2020 to 2021. This period allowed the team to reflect, reorganize, and prepare for a stronger and more focused return.

Re-emergence and Expanded Focus

In 2022, GLI resumed publication with renewed vigor and a broadened scope. The journal introduced eight fresh areas of focus that align closely with the scientific characteristics of the Department of International Relations at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. These areas encompass political science, international relations, economics, development studies, cultural studies, and security studies. The journal's return was met with enthusiasm and a commitment to maintaining high standards of scholarly excellence.

Publication Schedule and Commitment

Initially, the Global-Local Interactions Journal was published biannually in February and September. However, to better align with the academic calendar and ensure the timely dissemination of research, the publication schedule was changed in 2022 to June and December. This adjustment allows for the release of issues that are more synchronized with key academic and policy-making cycles. The journal’s E-ISSN is 2657-0009, ensuring its accessibility and reach within the academic community.

Core Themes and Contributions

The core focus of GLI lies in examining the impact of globalization in shaping global-local interactions among various actors within the global society. Key topics include contemporary global security, the geopolitics of globalization, transnational connections, the role of local governments in a globalized world, and foreign policy in the post-Cold War era. By providing a platform for diverse voices and perspectives, GLI invites scholars, researchers, policymakers, and students to contribute to these crucial areas of study.

Looking Ahead

The Global-Local Interactions Journal remains committed to publishing high-quality manuscripts that advance the field of International Relations. Despite the challenges posed by the hiatus, the journal has emerged stronger, with a clearer focus and a broader scope. The editorial team extends their apologies for any inconvenience caused during the hiatus and appreciates the continued support of the academic community.

As we look to the future, GLI will continue to provide valuable insights into the complex and evolving nature of global-local interactions, fostering a deeper understanding of globalization's impact on various actors and sectors within the global society.
